Wellhausen recaps UW' sweep of Minnesota and look ahead to the UND series
Hi there Badger Fans!
Last weekend was one of the most exciting weekends of the season as the No. 1 Badgers faced the No. 3 Golden Gophers in a two-game series at home.
Playing in front of a sold out crowd for both games, the contagious energy of our fans spread throughout the team as we took the ice. It was a hard-fought, high intensity series that challenged us all, yet we met those game standards, playing to our full potentials as individuals to create an unbeatable force all together. The Badgers swept the Gophers, winning 3-2 in overtime on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday.
Highlights of the weekend surround my linemate, Annie Pankowski, as she totaled three goals over the weekend including the overtime tip-in on Friday night.Â
"Overall, it was a great weekend for this team. Being able to sweep a team that has always given us the best games is huge for the confidence of every player on this team," Annie states. "Now we know that Minnesota is beatable and this team has shown that we have what it takes."
On her memories of scoring against the maroon and gold, she reflects:
"Celebrating the goals from the weekend were absolutely unforgettable. It was a total team effort top to bottom and I couldn't be more proud of this team."
Thanks Pancake! We couldn't be more proud of you either.
The Badgers not only swept the series, but the WCHA honors for the week as well. On behalf of the team, I want to congratulate Ann-Renee Desbiens for earning the Defensive Player of the Week title, Annie for Offensive Player of the Week, and Sam Cogan for her second Rookie of the Week honor. Great job ladies!
After a whirlwind of celebration, the Badgers now regain focus to take on No. 9 North Dakota this weekend. Using the confidence built from last weekend, the girls are ready to go, knowing that every team we play will want to bring us down; we have to match that notion. As we fly out today to the chilly tundra of Grand Forks, we are all excited!
The Badgers vs. Fighting Hawks games will be played on Friday at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 4:00 pm.
Thank you, fans, for all of your unwavering support! It means more to us than you will ever know to be able to play with such an electric crowd. You play a huge role in keeping us motivated throughout each weekend. Thank you!
