Wisconsin vs. Penn State

Bobbi Kelsey
On the team's shooting performance in tonight's game:
"When you miss a couple, you have to believe the next ones are going in. That's how you get out of a shooting slump, work on it and believe that you are going to make some shots. We had that belief, we had some good practices leading up to the game. Somebody tweeted out that we were on fire during warm ups, but I don't come out to watch warm ups."
On neutralizing Penn State's size and earning rebounds and blocks:
"I've never had a team that blocks shots as well as these guys. Cassie Rochel and Malayna Johnson had some, even Carly Truesdale got her one. They just have a knack for doing it if they are patient and wait. If the person jumps a little bit, then you can get it every time. That's the good thing about blocking shots. Cassie has a talent for it, and Jacki Gulczynski got her piece of one or two down there. I think she ran over and got somebody's. These guys are good shot blockers when they take their time and really time it out."
On Dakota Whyte's defensive play and how the players fed off of each other to change the momentum of the game:
"When the players aren't thinking about what they're doing wrong, and maybe I'm not yelling at them so much, they tend to bounce back and really concentrate on what they are doing. Dakota (Whyte) was struggling there for a minute, but she found her way. And that's a big step for her. She internalizes a lot because she wants to do well for her team, and she wants to do well for herself too. When she was not doing that, I told her to figure out other ways to get involved. When she got both steals, I think that boosted her confidence a little bit."
On the difference in Gulczynski's individual play during tonight's game:
"I told her that if she doesn't shoot while she's open, she's coming out. Her passing up open shots doesn't help us and she knows that now."
On comparing this Penn State team to the Penn State team the Badgers beat in 2013:
"This is a different team, and Penn State is not used to this kind of struggle. They have traditionally been a great powerhouse women's basketball team, and I don't know what is going on over there, but they are going to figure it out. They have some veteran coaches and some competitive, prideful players. For some reason their shots aren't falling, and we've been on the other side of that.
"But we certainly are going to encourage those who are good shooters, and we've got some pretty good ones, to work on it. It doesn't come become you want it to. You've got to get your butt in the gym, get off Twitter and Facebook, and you've got to sacrifice to be a great player. If you want to be a great shooter, you've got to get yourself into the gym and put some shots up. When these guys do that, that's when their confidence comes. It comes through the work. Of course you should expect a miss when you don't work on your shot. Why should you make it? You shouldn't, because you haven't worked on it. We can keep this going. But it's not a one-woman show. We've got plenty of players if they would just do the things we are encouraging them to do. I told them that I will always stop what I'm doing to rebound for them, but unless they come and ask me to do it, I'm not going to find them. My time is over. All I can do is help them shine."

Jacki Gulczynski
On the difference in her individual play during tonight's game:
"I think Coach Bobbie lit a fire under me during our last game when she pulled me after the first two minutes of the game. She told me to shoot the ball, and that really got under my skin a little bit. Nobody likes to sit on the bench, so I was just determined tonight to come out and shoot it. It felt good coming off (my hand) and it's all attributed to my teammates setting great screens and we had really great ball movement on the outside to set up those kinds of shots."
On the turning point in the game to help extend the Wisconsin lead:
"I think a huge play was when Dakota got a steal at midcourt and went down for a good transitions layup. Those types of possessions are always going to light a fire under a team. When Dakota gets out of her head, she's a great player. And when she takes care of the ball, we all feed off of her energy. So when that possession happened, I really feel that was when the turn took place."
Cassie Rochel
On comparing this Penn State team to the Penn State team the Badgers beat in 2013:
"This is a different Penn State team, yet they are still talented. Coming in here, we started off a little slow, but coach said that it is all about punching back. We came in at halftime and just regrouped ourselves and decided that we needed to play the basketball that we know how to play in the second half. And that's what we did in the second half."

On what happened in the second half:
"Well, I think we had a scoring drought in the second half, and we tend to do that. We have stretches of the game - five, six, seven-minute stretches where we struggle to score. Wisconsin got on it and transitioned and got some easy baskets. It kind of got away from us there."
On Lindsey Spann's slow down in the second half:
"I think these quick turnarounds are harder on the away team. I thought we ran out of gas a little bit in the second half…didn't have quite as much energy as we did in the first half and certainly Wisconsin played a role in that. They were very aggressive. The second half, they hit a couple of big shots and a couple of big 3-pointers and got their confidence up, hence their momentum."
On if Penn State ever managed to gain their momentum back:
"No we didn't get the momentum back."
