COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Three different Badgers scored and senior goaltender Alex Rigsby stopped all 13 shots she faced as the No. 2 Wisconsin women’s hockey team blanked Ohio State, 3-0, Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.
Wisconsin (22-3-2, 18-3-2-1) earned its 10th shutout of the season as the Badgers lead the nation in scoring defense allowing 0.96 goals per contest. UW has limited its opponents to one goal or less in 20 of its 27 games this year.

“I told the team at the end of the game that was one of our overall strongest games from start to finish,” UW head coach Mark Johnson said. “It was a good 60 minutes. I thought we did a great job on the four penalties that we took and we did a great job of killing penalties. We didn’t really give them a lot of opportunities in the offensive zone. We faced a tough team that hadn’t lost in 7 or 8 games on the smaller ice sheet, but we gave a great team effort. Everybody contributed and it was nice to win the game.”
The Badgers outshot the Buckeyes (11-13-5, 6-12-5-2) 34-13, which included a 27-8 advantage during the final two periods.
After a scoreless first, the Badgers got on the board midway through the second, as junior Brittany Ammerman fired a laser past OSU goaltender Lisa Steffes on UW’s second power play of the night to give the Cardinal and White a 1-0 lead over Ohio State. The goal marked Ammerman’s 18th on the year, which leads Wisconsin.
Wisconsin tacked on two goals late in the third, as Kelly Jaminski scored her fourth goal of the year off of an OSU turnover in its own zone to extend UW’s lead to 2-0 with less than five minutes to go in the game. Junior Blayre Turnbull tacked on Wisconsin’s final goal with 1:53 left to seal the win.
Ammerman and Turnbull each ended the night with a goal and an assist, while sophomore Courtney Burke also tallied an assist.
Rigsby has a streak of 124 minutes, 36 seconds, of shutout hockey after earning a shutout of Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 26. She earned her 95th career win and her 28th career shutout.
The Badgers were 1-of-3 on the power play while killing all four its penalties.
“Special teams were probably the difference in the game as we capitalized on the power play,” Johnson said. “We thought we had another power play goal but then they reviewed it and disallowed it, but those things if you’re on the plus side at the end of the game with your power play and killing penalties generally you have a pretty good chance of winning and tonight was an example of that where we killed the four penalties that we took and capitalized on the power play and got a couple late goals to finish them off.
“It was a very good team effort and now it’s our job to respond and come back tomorrow night and try to do the same thing.”
The Badgers wrap up their series with the Buckeyes tomorrow at 3 p.m. (CT).
