MADISON, Wis. -- After posting a pair of shutouts against St. Cloud State last weekend, Wisconsin sophomore Ann-Renée Desbiens was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 21-24, the league announced Tuesday.
It marks the second time this season Desbiens has earned the award, as she was also recognized as the league's defensive player of the week on Oct. 14 after shutting out Ohio State in a weekend sweep.
Desbiens turned away all 27 shots she faced over the weekend as No. 3 Wisconsin blanked St. Cloud State, 4-0, last Friday before then earning a 3-0 shutout against the Huskies on Saturday.
A native of La Malbaie, Quebec, Desbiens ranks in the top-10 nationally in winning percentage (.808) and goals-against average (1.52), while her four shutouts are tied for the fourth-most in the nation. She holds a 21-3-1 career record at Wisconsin, with her only three defeats coming at the hands of ranked opponents.
Desbiens and the Badgers hit the road this weekend for a non-conference series at New Hampshire. Faceoff on Friday is set for 6 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's game begins at 1 p.m.
