Recap |  Notes

Head Coach Bobbie Kelsey

On the game tonight:

We didn't execute quite the way we wanted to but we were happy with the outcome. Obviously not with everything, but that's a good team over there.

On Michala Johnson's performance:

She is a really talented scorer. She can score in a lot of different ways. She has a nice high hook shot, and she's a good defender. When she gets into the passing lane she can do some damage.

On Dakota Whyte as a player:

She has come a long way. She is in great condition, she can handle the ball, and as you can see, she has a quick first step. She still has a lot to learn, and she's a young player but she is willing and able and we will get her there.

On Whyte's passing:

Yeah she is when she is out there and not trying to do too much, making up her mind before the defense does. But she is a really good passer, and you saw some hiccups here tonight from some of her passes but it's just decision-making. She has to be a great decision-maker and really make sure she is seeing what's in front of her and not just what's behind her.

On her expectations of the defense this season:

I just want us to be a little more disciplined on defense. With the new rules, the hand-checking rules, it kind of keeps people not wanting to get up close on folks because they're really going to crack down on a lot of the hand-checking and holding people up on their cuts and things like that.

That makes for a better offensive game but sometimes as a defender you don't know how close you can get, and you don't want to get too close because you know if you touch them, that's going to be a touch foul. But those are the rules and we have to play to the rules and I think it will be good for our game

On upcoming game against Drake:

Drake is a great program. They're very respected and they can shoot as well, so it will be the same but they're a bit bigger. They're going to run their plays and do all of the different things you've seen the last two games.
