MADISON, Wis. -- Nine stranded runners cost the University of Wisconsin softball team a doubleheader sweep over Loyola, as the Badgers fell, 4-0, to the Ramblers in game two at Goodman Diamond on Thursday night.
The Badgers (16-12, 0-2 Big Ten) left the bases loaded in the first and second innings, stranding one more in each of the third, fourth and seven frames en route to their loss to Loyola (12-10, 3-0 Horizon).

True freshman Cassandra Darrah suffered her fourth loss of the season, giving up five hits, four earned runs and five walks after six innings of work.
For Loyola, pitcher Brittany Gardner did her job well against UW. In her eighth win of the season the freshman scattered five hits and surrendered four walks while striking out four in her sixth complete game of the season.
In the bottom of the first and second innings, the Badgers found themselves in back-to-back bases loaded situations but were unable to capitalize.
Jennifer Krueger led off for UW in the first with a single as she outran Gardner's throw to reach base. After Krueger stole second, Whitney Massey and Karla Powell drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for Shannel Blackshear, but the sophomore popped up to shortstop for the first out. Michelle Mueller grounded to first, but Jacqueline Grim came home to force out Krueger. With two outs and the bases loaded, Stephanie Peace popped up to third base to end UW's threat.
In the second inning, Ashley Hanewich reached base after she was hit by Gardner's pitch. After Darrah's sacrifice bunt advanced Hanewich to second, Kendall Grimm singled to left field and was able to hustle to second on the play. With Hanewich and Grimm in scoring position and one out, Krueger was able to reach base on a Loyola fielding error. Massey and Powell drew the last two outs of the inning, though, on a strikeout and pop out, respectively.
The Badgers also stranded a runner at third in both the third and fourth innings.
The game remained scoreless through the fourth inning until Loyola broke the game open in the top of the fifth.
Lauren Zaworski led off for the Ramblers in the top of the frame, smashing a home run over the center field wall to give Loyola the 1-0 lead. With the home run, Zawroski became the first Rambler hitter to solve Darrah, after the freshman had gone the first four innings without yielding a hit.
The Ramblers tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth as Jenna Grim crushed a three-run homer run to left center field to give Loyola the 4-0 lead.
The Badgers get back in to conference play this weekend at Michigan State. Both Saturday's and Sunday's games against the Spartans are set to start at 12 p.m. (CT).
