HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Wisconsin (18-8-3, 10-7-2 WCHA) kept their winning ways going on the road, defeating Michigan Tech, 4-2. Mark Zengerle scored the game-winner for Wisconsin, as the Badgers won the opening game of the series.
The Badgers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Podge Turnbull (Heyward, Wis.) got the Badgers on the board with his 11th goal of the season.
Turnbull scored from the left of the goaltender, as his shot found the five-hole at 6:37 of the first period. The Badgers outshot the Huskies 17-4 in the opening stanza.

In the second period, a brief scoring flurry would give Michigan Tech (3-19-3, 1-15-1 WCHA) a 2-1 lead. Alex MacLeod scored the first goal for the Huskies, putting in a loose puck in the crease just 41 seconds into the period. Then, the Huskies scored again at 3:18 into the period when Evan Witt scored through traffic in front. However, those two quick goals made up all of Michigan Tech's offense for the evening.
The Badgers retook the lead with a scoring burst of their own. Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) evened the game for UW at 2-2, scoring on a wrist shot from the right circle at 13:17 of the second period.
Just 29 seconds later, freshman Mark Zengerle (Rochester, N.Y.) put in a rebound for the eventual game-winner. The Zengerle goal forced the Huskies to change goaltenders and extinguished any momentum that the Huskies had.
In the third period, the Badgers added an insurance goal to make it 4-2. At 13:12 of the third period, Tyler Barnes (Eagan, Minn.) scored on a diving shot off of his own rebound, putting the game out of reach.
Barnes and Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C) each had multi-point games for the Badgers. Barnes scored and added an assist, while Schultz had two assists.
Scott Gudmandson (Sherwood Park, Alberta) made 24 saves for the Badgers, improving his record to 14-6-1. Josh Robinson took the loss for Michigan Tech, falling to 1-10-2. Both teams were scoreless on the power-play, with Wisconsin going 0-for-3, but also holding Michigan Tech to 0-for-3.
The two teams conclude the series tomorrow night. The puck drops at 6 p.m. (CT).
