Head Coach Mike Eaves
On the way the win was achieved tonight: "We'll take a win anyway we can get it. Did we play our best? I think if you talk to our boys they'd say no. I think it started with our power play, we were 0-8. We fought it all night. I don't think we made the right reads and made the right passes or did the right things. Other parts of our game we seemed off as well. We'll take the win, but knowing that we have a task tomorrow and an opportunity tomorrow to finish this off. That's a very daunting task. It's not easy to finish somebody's season and we better be coming out knowing that and knowing this team will fight. Nobody wants their season to end."
On going from the regular season to the playoffs: "You have a clean slate. We've addressed that when you start the playoffs, nobody has a win or a loss. You hope the things that you've done over the season are improving so they don't happen. It's difficult to turn the switch. Maybe they're (UAA) looking at the fact that they are getting better at it and they didn't get what they wanted tonight, but the hope is that it will change."
On Scott Gudmandson's play tonight: "We gave him the game puck tonight. We look at him and the things he's been working on and he's moved the puck as good as he has all year. He was getting back and stopping it, making crisp passes, and getting up on the wall. Yes, there were a couple of pucks that bounced out of his glove that he'd like to have back, but overall we think he was pretty darn good."
On the second goal to extend the lead: "I thought the second goal got the crowd into it. The third goal, being up 3-0 versus being up 2-1 is a huge difference mentally. The short-handed goal I thought was a critical point of the game."
Senior Michael Davies
On the game overall: “We will definitely take the win but at the same time it’s definitely not our best hockey. We struggled on the power play. We have to come out there tomorrow. They really have nothing to play for tomorrow. They have to win and they have to win out. It’s going to be a war right from the drop of the puck.”
On the Wisconsin’s lack of consistency throughout the game: “It pretty much started with me. I’m not really sure what it was with me tonight. My hands were on page one and my brain was on page 50. They were not together. We have to be better tomorrow. We know what we have to do. It’s all about execution and we have to capitalize. We are fortunate enough to go scoreless on the power play and to come out with the win. We will be ready to go tomorrow.”
Senior Aaron Bendickson
On his goal: “It was just a scramble in front. It was a great shot by Rammer (John Ramage). We are always taught to spin and break loose and find the puck. It was just an instinct like anyone else would have to dive and put it in the net.”
Junior Scott Gudmandson
On his performance overall: “I thought I played pretty well, but I think I had a few better games this year. One of the things I didn’t think I did very well was my glove was not very good. I kept dropping a few pucks, but I think the guys did a good job of blocking out so I could swat them away before anybody could get back there.”
