Star of the Game
Junior Jordan Taylor put up one of the finest stat lines one will find in a box score. The point guard tied a game high with 19 points to go along with seven rebounds. He also set a career high with two blocks and matched his career best with three steals. In addition, Taylor doled out six assists and committed zero turnovers.
Play of the Game
En route to his career-high-tying three steals, Taylor provided the highlight of the night. Less than three minutes into the second half, Taylor made a diving stop as Michael Harper tried to hit a streaking teammate on a two-on-two with a bounce pass. Taylor made a goalie-like stop on the pass, caught the deflection while still on the ground and was able to dribble away as he got up. The Badgers’ ensuing possession resulted in a pair of free throws for Mike Bruesewitz.
Turning Point of the Game
Jon Leuer’s early 3-point barrage set the tone and gave the Badgers a lead they would not relinquish. The senior forward opened the game by going 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point line. Leuer added a jumper after his first missed 3-pointer to score the first 14 points of the game for UW. With 16:02 left to play in the first half, Leuer had outscored Coppin State, 14-7.
Stat of the Game
The Badgers set a new school record by draining 17 3-pointers on Thursday night. Leuer got things started with his hot shooting early on in the game and finished with a game-high five 3-pointers, but six other Badgers buried a triple in the game. Taylor added four three-pointers, as did senior Tim Jarmusz who set a career-high with his 12 points. Bruesewitz, Josh Gasser, Rob Wilson and Jared Berggren each knocked down a three of their own as the Badgers hit on 17-of-38 attempts (44.7 %) for the night. It was the second-most 3-pointers attempted in a game in school history.
