Game Notes vs. Kansas
Nov. 21, 2010
Player of the Game – Alyssa Karel
Karel returned to the Badger lineup after missing the first three games of the regular season with a knee injury. The 5-7 guard scored the first four points for the Badgers and finished with 27 total points on career highs of 12-for-25 shooting from the field. The 27-point effort is Karel’s second highest single game total of her career. She also recorded two blocks, two assists and a rebound in the UW’s 93-86 loss to Kansas.
Play of the Game
With 1:01 to play, senior Emily Neal made a 3-point shot from the right baseline and was fouled. She made the free throw to give Wisconsin a 77-75 lead. The lead was Wisconsin’s first since 20 seconds into the second half when the Badgers led the Jayhawks 33-32. Kansas tied the game with two free throws to enter overtime with 77 points apiece.
Stat of the Game
Kansas outrebounded the Badgers 48-28. The Jayhawks registered 17 offensive rebounds, leading to 22 second chance points. The large margin is due in part to the absence of 6-4 senior forward Lin Zastrow, who was gone for most of the second half. The 48 rebounds is a new season high against the UW and 17 more than William & Mary’s total of 31.
Kansas also went to the free throw line 46 times, making 33 attempts. Wisconsin had 27 team fouls, and were 11-of-18 from the charity stripe.
Turning Point
The turning point of the game started at the first tip of overtime. Kansas’s Angel Goodrich made a layup off the opening tip off, leading to a Jayhawk 6-0 run to start overtime. The run included another layup by Diara Moore and two free throws by Carolyn Davis. The Badgers never reclaimed the lead after the 6-0 deficit to start extra time.
