Post Game Quotes
Wisconsin vs. Minnesota-Duluth

Head coach Mike Eaves

On the mood of the team after a tough loss:

They are clearly disappointed, and frustrated. But, frustration is an emotion that you can turn into something useful. That was the last thing we said to the kids. Be disappointed. Use that frustration that makes you come back tomorrow and have the opposite result.

On overall goalie play:
Up 3-1, I think we got caught up playing a pond hockey game the second period and didn't end up doing the right things and we found ourselves behind. We showed great character coming back. We were diligent. There are some positives that are there. But the last time I saw both goalies pulled in the game was the World Junior Championship last year in a gold medal game, and it doesn't happen very often. Both kids fought the puck and as a result they found themselves sitting on the bench. We will see what we will do tomorrow about that.

On the difficulty of a goalie coming into the game off the bench:
It's hard to come in and have a goal scored on you (referring to Brett Bennett), but goalies know that is part of their mental preparation during the course of the game. Brett especially, he's been around and he understands that and so does Goodie (Scott Gudmandson). It's kind of the voice in the back of your head that tells you that you need to prepare like you are going to go into the game

On offensive play:
Scoring five goals is a positive we can take. Our power play did some goods things scoring one goal and creating energy. If you take a look at all the positives that happened across the board, that was one of the good ones.

On reappearing overtime losses:
Our guys never think about that. But maybe we should worry about it to finally get the overtime over with and finally win one. It's something that rarely enters our mind. We try to instead focus on the things that we need to do to try and win.

On Scott Gudmandson's goalie play:

There were pucks that he usually stops that he didn't stop and should have stopped. That was something we haven't seen from Goodie. Obviously a goalie wants to stay in there but sometimes you are better to just cut your losses. He has been pulled before, it's part of the goaltending world.

On overall game play in third period:
Not only the defensive, but in groups of five we got a little bit more solid, and we were on the right sides of people. We got pucks out and in at the blue line. So there's a bunch of things better in the third and on the defensive end.

On what was said after the second period:

It was all about telling our guys that they needed to respond in a way that showed our will. If will is the spinal column of character then we need to make a statement  as a team. For teetering, lets make sure we teeter to the side of having a good will and going out and demonstrating that.

Player Quotes

Brett Bennett

On coming into the game to have a goal scored:

It's tough, but as a goalie you sign up for that. It's part of the job and you have to do what you got to do. Hopefully you can stop the next one.

On UMD's goal in overtime:
...Jake (Gardiner) was bringing it up and the defender got a good hook on him and he lost the puck. The defenseman shot ... passed right in front, I poked the guy and he regained control and just slid it five-hole.

On if Scott Gudmandson was fighting the puck tonight:
They caught a few good shots on him, sometimes it just isn't your night. Coach thought it was in the team's best interests to get him out of there a little early. But I don't think that was on his shoulders, he has been playing really well for us so nights like that happen. It's all in the business.

On his goalie play:
It was all about getting comfortable and seeing pucks, feeling it. Just getting into the game and getting that game sweat going. When you sit for the first half of the game, you get cold. So you have to mentally engage yourself in the game and get a sweat going.

Tyler Barnes

On the Wisconsin's tying goal at the end of regulation:

(John) Ramage made a great play up top, shaking a guy off and finding Craig Smith in the slot and Smith took a shot, and I was fortunate enough to get the stick on it and have it go in the net.

On mentality going into the third period:

Our team has been through a lot together. The summer training and training last week was upbeat. We just came together and we know that we are going to have ups and downs in a game. We know that we need to control our ups and fight against our downs. We had a down second period and we came together. We are a team of fighters, we don't want to give up the win. We came out, we were at home and just tried to play our best.

Jake Gardiner

On emotions after the tough loss:

It's definitely not a good feeling. Everyone is disappointed right now but we have to use that to our advantage tomorrow and come back and get two points. I think we will be ready to go tomorrow.

On performance against No.1 UMD:

That game could have gone either way. The call at the end wasn't very fortunate for us. It's a positive thing for us, for our team. It shows that we can play against anybody. Tomorrow will be a huge test for us.
