
Prevost and Deluce selected to Canada's Under-22 Team

Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Carolyne Prevost and Mallory Deluce are part of 21 players who will comprise Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team at the 2010 MLP Cup. The two Badgers will miss UW’s matchup against Team USA and the series at North Dakota as the MLP Cup goes from January 5-9, 2010 in Ravensburg, Germany. One more player will be added before the team departs Canada on January 2.
Deluce, a native of London, Ont., returns after winning silver at the 2009 MLP Cup and gold at the at the 2008 Air Canada Cup while on Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team. The junior forward is UW’s second leading scorer with eight goals and seven assists this season.
Prevost, a sophomore forward out of Sarnia, Ont., joins the roster after participating in numerous camps for the national team. Prevost helped Canada to a three-game sweep providing three goals for the National Women’s Under-18 Team during a three-game series against the U.S., including an overtime game-winner in the second game. Prevost currently has two goals and six assists this season for the Badgers.
Canada’s roster includes 18 of the 22 players who dressed for Canada in a three-game series against Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary in August. The under-22 team came out on the losing end of all three games against the national side.
“We are thrilled that we can name these 21 players today who will represent Canada in Germany,” said Margot Page, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team. “The experience these players received by playing against the national team in August was key to their development, and we look forward to continuing that development in Europe come January.”
Canada’s roster includes 11 players who won silver at the 2009 MLP Cup (Bendus, Bettez, Birchard, Blais, Bram, Deluce, Kessler, Larocque, Rougeau, Smith, Spooner) and three players who won silver with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship (Fortino, Jenner, Wong).
Canada is a six-time champion at the MLP Cup, winning gold in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 before settling for the silver medal in 2009. Canada will play in Group A with Finland and Russia, while Germany, Sweden and Switzerland will make up Group B.
