MADISON, Wis. --
STAR OF THE GAME:
Jon Leuer led all scorers with 17 points, but Jason Bohannon earns Star of the Game honors vs. Illinois-Chicago. The senior guard caught fire from long range, knocking down 5-of-6 from 3-point range and finishing with 15 points. Bohannon also tallied two rebounds, three assists and a block in 31 minutes of action.
PLAY OF THE GAME:
Sunday’s Play of the Game came in the form or the rarely seen, but often effective, shot lob midway through the first half. Jason Bohannon caught the ball near the top of the arc and went up for a 3-pointer. Since he has already hit a couple of treys by that point, the defense flew out at him. In mid-air he located Leuer open under the basket and lobbed him the ball. Leuer caught it and laid it in all in one motion for an easy deuce.
Honorable mention: Trevon Hughes’ drive and leave for a giant Keaton Nankivil slam in the second half.
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME:
UW trailed 4-2 at the first media timeout. That was about the last time the game was in doubt. UW scored on its next possession after the timeout and never looked back. A 10-2 spurt over the next three minutes gave the Badgers a 12-6 lead and put all the momentum on UW’s side.
STAT OF THE GAME:
UW had a decided height advantage over the Flames, whose line-up featured no player taller than 6-foot-7, and that led to a 40-19 rebounding edge for the Badgers. Much of the rebounding edge came because UW shot over 50 percent and held UIC to only 36 percent, but the Badgers crashed the offensive glass as well. Wisconsin posted a 13 to 6 advantage in the offensive rebounds category.
