Champs Sports Bowl Post-Practice Quotes
Dec. 25, 2009
Junior quarterback Scott Tolzien
On his impressions of the team’s first bowl practice:
“It went pretty smooth considering all the rain we just had. It was like a monsoon out there. I think guys kind of embraced it and had fun with it, and that’s what you have to do. You can’t sit there and worry about the elements, you just have to play your style of football.”
“It affected little things, like guys aren’t as fast in the rain, but I think the guys handled it well. We just try to move forward on each and every play, just focusing on the play rather than the weather.”
On the team’s focus:
“We had yesterday off so I think everyone got the outside distractions off their chest and now we can just focus on Miami and prepping for the bowl game.”
On treating Christmas like a normal Tuesday of game week:
“The coaches have really tried to make it as much like a game week as possible, so it feels really similar to an in-season Tuesday out here today. I think it’s good to get guys into the rhythm of a game week and just focus on the game and not any of the outside distractions.”
On how the Badgers’ offense stacks up against Miami’s defense:
“They’re a really good team and they have a lot of talent, and it’s going to be good for us just because you want to beat the best to be the best. This is a great way for us to finish out our season strong and end it on a good note with all the hard work we’ve put in.”
On spending Christmas in Orlando:
“I really can’t complain. We’re in Florida and it’s great weather, minus all the rain today, but it’s awesome to be able to spend it with your teammates. It’s great to spend it with your family, but it’s also kind of cool to spend a Christmas and a holiday like this with your teammates. This is like a family, too.”
Junior offensive lineman Gabe Carimi
On the downpour that rolled in during practice:
“It was a very clear Christmas. It was pouring hard, but it was fun and it was cooler, which was good.”
On treating the day like a Tuesday:
“I don’t even know what day it is. I assume it’s Tuesday because that’s what day we would be practicing normally, so it’s Tuesday to us.”
On the matchup between the Badgers’ offensive line and Miami’s front seven:
“I feel we’ve been working pretty hard and we understand the concepts of downhill linebackers and defensive lineman really shedding blocks, and just staying on our blocks and holding on and driving. We’ll match up pretty well, but they’re definitely one of the top three defensive fronts we’ve faced this year.”
