MADISON, Wis. - As the holiday season approaches, members of the Wisconsin women’s basketball team were asked about their holiday plans. The Badgers hold their last practice before the break on Tuesday and will return to Madison for practice late on Dec. 26.
Wisconsin returns to action on Dec. 28 when it hosts Michigan State at 7 p.m. in the Kohl Center.
Today is the second of a six-part series on the Badgers and the holiday excitement. Be sure to check back in the next four days as the Badgers write about their favorite holiday traditions, their favorite holiday food, what they enjoy most about the holidays, what they asked for this holiday season and what makes the holiday season special.
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
On Christmas Eve we always open our presents from our immediate family. We then always play a board game till about 2 a.m. For dinner, my mom lets all of us choose an appetizer that she will make and we have a whole bunch of appetizers for dinner. – Alyssa Karel
My favorite holiday tradition growing up was always going with the family to look at Christmas lights and then going to cut down our own tree. My other favorite tradition is reading the story of Jesus' birth on Christmas morning, because it is important to remember what we are really suppose to be celebrating. – Ashley Thomas
My favorite holiday tradition is waking up Christmas morning with just my immediate family to a big breakfast made by my dad. We always tape record opening our presents from Santa! One unusual tradition that we STILL do til this day is every Christmas Eve, we go to the mall after church and go take a picture with Santa. – Rae Lin D’Alie
My favorite holiday tradition would definitely be being home with the family. – Anya Covington
As children, we were allowed to open just one gift on Christmas Eve and we still do that today. We all to get pick just one gift and open it. It’s a lot of fun doing it as a family. – Jade Davis
My family is pretty chill when it comes to celebrating Christmas. But my favorite part is Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. My mom cooks the main course and my dad is the dessert specialist. And we go all out. Three desserts for the Trotter's is average! – Alana Trotter

Going to church on Christmas Eve, sometimes the midnight service. – Coach Lisa Stone
I like the fact that we have Christmas at both my grandparents’ houses on Christmas Day and that I get to see all of my family. – Catie O’Leary My favorite tradition is spending Christmas morning with my family. Another tradition I absolutely love is baking and decorating Christmas cookies with my cousins. – Emily Neal
