Wisconsin Head Coach Lisa Stone
The last possession the Badgers had when the score was 59-58
"We tried to isolate and having switched out Lin (Zastrow) and Alyssa (Karel) we had to run a little pin-down action. We got a good look at it and Alyssa did a nice job shooting over a lot of people, but it didn't come down to that shot. It was the course of the game and it was hard to get into that flow. I sympathize with them because there were so many starts and stops. There were a lot of fouls called and they are a tremendous free throw shooting team. There is no question about it."
On Green Bay's overall play tonight
"We couldn't get anything going inside. That's a great credit them. Green Bay did a great job defensively on us. They shut us down inside. We had nothing going inside. Once we started attacking and we went on that 12-0 run, we started to get to the foul line as well. It's something we can learn from. I give a lot of credit to Green Bay. They did a great job."
On what Green Bay's offense
"They cut hard. They were slipping screens and they got in more. They were first to the ball a lot of times. They got the loose balls and got some second-chance opportunities. I give them a lot of credit. They really worked hard and they cut hard. They finished hard and they made some tough shots. The ball was loose on the floor and they dished it out and got a three. Again, they really attacked the basket very well and got inside and finished. That's something that we need to do a better job of offensively."
On preventing foul trouble in the future
"We are going to have to talk about that and adjust. If that's the way things are going to be called the rest of the year, we are going to have to show our hands and guard a little better and keep our hands off. We just can't give up that many points at the free-throw line. If they get 40 by halftime, that's just not like our defense. We have to play without fouling. We have to capitalize on the other end. We had some costly turnovers down the stretch as well. It's possession by possession. We just didn't get it done tonight."
UW-Green Bay Head Coach Matt Bollant
Opening statement: "We were just hoping to pull it out and win it. So we're thankful for the win; we're thankful for getting through the game and it was a tough game. I'm really proud of our players. I really thought they stepped up and played with a lot of composure for a young team."
On switching to a 2-1-2 trap when Wisconsin got back in the game: "They were killing us off the dribble and the trap makes them maybe have to shoot around the perimeter a little bit more. The one thing that was disappointing was we got some fouls off of that and usually we keep people off the foul line. That hurt us. We wanted to make them have to make shots to beat us and they were just killing us off the dribble. We were just trying to get a change of pace with what we were doing in the man (defense) because they were just hitting the rim so easily. We had to try to do something differently."
