MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's hockey team experienced a little déjà vu in a 5-3 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday night at the Kohl Center.

On Friday night, Wisconsin had a three goal rally in the third period, but a turnover late in the game gave Ohio State the 4-3 win. On Saturday, the Badgers scored three straight goals in the second period to eventually tally the 5-3 win and split the series to move to 3-3-0 overall and in league play.

In the first frame, from the end boards, sophomore Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ontario) passed it to sophomore Brooke Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) who sent the puck in front of the crease to junior Geena Prough (Farmington, Mich.). Prough capitalized on the opportunity, one-timing it past OSU goaltender, Chelsea Knapp, to put the Badgers on the board and solidify her first goal of the season at the 3:38 mark.

In the second period, Ohio State came out with plenty of fire, scoring two goals in under three minutes, but it was the Badgers who had the extra spark, answering with a three goal rally in the frame.

UW interim head coach Tracey DeKeyser was pleased with the Badgers' response to OSU's early goals in the second period.

"I was impressed with the emotion--both players in the game and our bench," she said. "It showed our level of emotion and it helped us stay composed under pressure.  They didn't let it get in their heads, but they responded and kept battling."

Just 33 seconds into the second period, OSU's Laura McIntosh centered it to Teal Bishop who found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Hokey Langan tallied the second assist for the Buckeyes.

At the 3:02 mark, Ohio State's Rachel Davis served the puck up to Laura McIntosh who broke away to give the Buckeyes the 2-1 lead.

Shortly after, on a breakaway, Ammerman was taken down by an OSU defender and was awarded a penalty shot. After faking a forehand, she raised a backhand to split the score at 2-2. The goal marked Wisconsin's first penalty shot conversion in school history.

"We were joking with her and saying that she [Ammerman] saved her first goal of the season for a show stopper like that," DeKeyser said.  "It just shows what Brooke can do.  It was a great shot and helped us regain the momentum.  It'll be on the highlight film for sure."

With 15:15 left in the second period, senior captain Jasmine Giles (Ottawa, Ontario) sent the puck from the left boards into the Badgers offensive zone to senior Kyla Sanders (Fort Myers, Fla.). Sanders centered it to Prough who buried the puck into the net to record her second goal of the game, making the score 3-2.

UW junior Anne Dronen (Chaska, Minn. ) also scored her first goal of the season after she intercepted an OSU pass and skated past three Buckeyes defenders to notch the 4-2 lead with 5:50 left in the second period.

In the final frame OSU's Langan made the score 4-3 off of an assist from McIntosh.

Junior Malee Windmeier (Champlin, Minn.) assisted on Deluce's goal with 7:30 left in the contest to finish the scoring.

Goaltender Becca Ruegsegger finished with 17 saves for the Badgers, while Knapp tallied 20 saves for OSU.

The win advances the Badgers to 3-3-0 overall and 3-3-0 in WCHA play.

Wisconsin outshot OSU 25-20. Neither team was able to capitalize on the power play, despite the Badgers and Buckeyes each having six opportunities with the player-advantage.

The Badgers continue WCHA play on Friday afternoon against border-battle rival Minnesota at 2 p.m. at the Kohl Center.
