
Border Battle resumes Monday in Madison

The holidays are over and while the rest of the UW student population enjoys a few more weeks of relaxation, the Wisconsin women's basketball team (10-2 overall, 0-1 Big Ten Conference) gets back to work Monday. The Badgers return to Big Ten action when Minnesota (8-3, 0-0) comes to the Kohl Center at 8 p.m. for the Border Battle. Monday 's game will be Wisconsin's second appearance on the Big Ten Network this season.
Monday's game is the lone meeting between these two teams with the winner contributing 40 points towards its respective school for the Border Battle. Minnesota currently leads Wisconsin 140-100 in the fifth annual competition. The UW vs. Minnesota series is the longest running women's basketball series for the University of Wisconsin. These two teams have met 59 times dating back to 1974 and the Badgers have the slight 30-29 advantage in the all-time series. Both teams won on the road in 2007-08 to split the season series.
After opening up the Big Ten season with a 73-63 loss to Iowa on Dec. 22, the Badgers are looking for their first conference win of the season. Minnesota is also looking for its first conference win as Monday's game is the Gophers' Big Ten opener.
The Gophers bring in a strong offense, averaging 72.2 points per game, which ranks third in the conference for scoring offense. They also rank first in the Big Ten with a .400 3-point field goal percentage. Emily Fox leads the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game and she is one of three Gopher players averaging double figures this season.
