Parody Song "Jolene" Debuts on uwbadgers.com
December 13, 2007 | Women's Basketball
Last year the University of Wisconsin promoted Alando Tucker, its men's basketball preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, through song with a parody on the tune 'Fernando' by ABBA produced by a local radio station.
This year the preseason Big Ten women's basketball player of the year is also a Badger. UW senior guard, Jolene Anderson, is the subject of another parody song, this time produced by Madison's Country Q106 radio station.
The song ' mid=1549"> --> Jolene ,' first recorded by Dolly Parton in 1974, has some new words. It 's being used in promotion of the Badger women's basketball team and in conjunction with a campaign for Jolene to become UW's first All-American and Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer for men and women.
Anderson, from tiny Port Wing, Wis., near the Lake Superior shoreline, first replaced all of the Wisconsin prep scoring records for boys and girls, collecting 2,881 points at South Shore High School.
In her collegiate career, she's nearly replaced every scoring mark for the Badgers, and should become the scoring champion for both UW men and women this season. She is simply the best scorer in Wisconsin basketball history and this song chronicles what will hopefully be the best season for her and the Badgers.

The Parody Song, 'Jolene '
Music by Dolly Parton, 1974
CHORUS:
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I know this year will greatly please the fans
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Bring us a Big Ten title `cause you can
Wisconsin native from afar, you can hear Superior 's roar.
You honed your skills upon a big barn floor,
As a prepster you were best,
Now you're on Wisconsin's quest
And no one can compete with you, Jolene.
Opponents worry in their sleep
How to stop you or the 3
They're crying when they call your name, Jolene
CHORUS:
We know that you're UW's best
Now the team must take the test
Will the Badgers reach their goals, Jolene '
Your talents made you our scoring queen
You can lead our top-ranked team
Pushing us beyond our dreams, Jolene.
CHORUS:
