Current, Former Badgers Meet at Goodman
September 24, 2006 | Softball
Twelve former Wisconsin softball players participated in the first alumni softball game Sunday at Goodman Diamond. The 2006-07 Badgers won 9-0, but there was plenty of fun had by all.
Jamie Prickett (1996-99) and Katie Layne (2002-05) rotated in the circle for the alums. Prickett earned UW's first-ever win back in 1996. Layne picked up 37 wins (fourth all-time at UW) and 343 strikeouts (fifth all-time).
There were plenty of current record holders who participated in the contest. Julie (Borchard) Christensen (1996-99) is UW's all-time leader in batting average (.329), hits (203), doubles (36), RBI (114), walks (71) and assists (515). Kris Zacher (2002-05) is UWs all-time leader in runs scored (113), triples (12), home runs (20) and stolen bases (41).
Jade Gosse (1999-2001) scored a school record 39 runs in 2000. Amanda Berg's (1996-2000) career on-base percentage of .401 is a school record. Chrissy Swartout (1997-2000) has appeared and started the most games in UW history (215).
But with all the legends in attendance, it was the young guns who stole the show. Eden Brock and Leah Vanevenhoven combined to pitch a two-hitter while striking out 11. The Badger offense pounded out 15 hits.
Katie Hnatyk went 3-for-4 with three RBI and finished a homer shy of the cycle. Hnatyk is likely to surpass Zacher and Boo Gillette's (2002-05) all-time home record this upcoming season. She needs two to do so. Both Zacher and Gillette participated in the game Sunday.
Lynn Anderson also had three hits for the Badgers. Katie Soderberg and Joey Daniels each had two. Shannon Krein drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single and finished 1-for-2.
