
UW Fares Well at Northwestern

Sophomore Yi Ting Siow led the Wisconsin swimming and diving teams Friday night as she claimed the 200 individual medley and 200 breaststroke events in a dual meet against Northwestern at Norris Aquatics Center.
Siow won the 200 IM in 2:02.12 seconds and also finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:11.91.
The women edged Northwestern 129-114 while the men fell to the Wildcats, 142-97.
Other winners for the Wisconsin women included Jackie Vavrek in the 50 freestyle (23.50), Kasey Carpenter in the 200 backstroke (2:00.29) and the 200 medley relay. The 200 back proved to be the most dominant race for the Badgers. Senior Susan Johnson followed Carpenter by 1/10th of a second to finish in a time of 2:00.30 and Candice Peak came in third (2:04.21).
On the boards, Jenny Hawkins won the 3-meter event with a score of 292.43 and also took second on the 1-meter (254.85).
The men claimed one race against Northwestern, winning the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:03.33. Swimming for the Badgers was Mike Desautels, Tom Molzahn, Kyle Sorensen and Phil Davies.
Scott Rice paced Wisconsin with a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:50.53) and the 200 individual medley (1:52.98). Molzahn also had a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:37.96).
Diver Kelly Todd placed second on the 1-meter board with a score of 327.38.
Wisconsin is back in action Nov. 17-19 at the Minnesota Invitational, site of the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
