UW Softball Recruit Named Player of the Year

Incoming University of Wisconsin softball player Leah Vanevenhoven was named recently as the Gatorade Thirst Quencher's 2005 State Prep Softball Player of the Year.
The left-handed pitcher from Kaukauna, Wis., finished her senior season with a 16-3 record, a 0.67 ERA and 145 strikeouts. Meanwhile, she posted a .509 batting average en route to leading her team to a No. 3 seed in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association sectional tournament.
Vanevenhoven, a 2005 senior all-star game selection, also was named first-team all-district by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Coaches Association this month.
