Miller Named Second-Team All-Region
May 18, 2005 | Softball
UW senior outfielder Anastasia Miller has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Mideast Region Second Team it was announced Wednesday.
The teams are voted on by NFCA member head coaches within their respective regions.
Miller, a native of Elburn, Ill., has had a breakout season in her final campaign as a Badger. A .227 career hitter through her first three seasons, Miller ranks fourth on the team in 2005 with a .320 batting average.
Her 11 home runs and 36 RBI this season both lead the team and are school single-season records. Miller's 11 homers surpassed the previous record of seven set by Julie Borchard in 1999. The RBI total broke teammate Boo Gillette's total of 34 she had last season.
Miller also leads the team with 18 walks and all UW outfielders with eight assists.
She is the fourth Wisconsin player to earn an all-region selection in school history, joining Borchard (second team, 1998), Andrea Kirchberg (first team, 2000; second team, 2002), Nicki Starry (second team, 2001) and Kris Zacher (second team, 2004).
The Badgers return to action this weekend when they host an NCAA Regional at Goodman Diamond. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday when UW takes on 23rd-ranked DePaul.
