Wisconsin Comes Up to Bat in the Postseason
May 12, 2005 | Softball
The Wisconsin softball team will make its fourth Big Ten tournament appearance this week when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the eight-team, single-elimination invite. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals the following week.
The fifth-seeded Badgers will take on fourth-seeded Ohio State in the last quarterfinal round game at 1:30 p.m. Central time Friday. The winner will take on the winner of Thursday night's contest between top seeded Michigan and eighth-seeded Michigan State at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The championship game is slated for noon Saturday, with the contest being televised live by CSTV.
Wisconsin won both regular season meetings with Ohio State during the opening weekend of Big Ten play April 1-2 in Madison. UW won Friday night's contest 2-1 on a sixth-inning solo home run by Kris Zacher before winning Saturday afternoon's contest 9-7 in eight innings.
Few teams in the country enter the postseason hotter than the Badgers. After seeing its record fall to 13-19 on April 16, Wisconsin has won 17 of its last 19 games, including a current season-high seven-game win streak.
The Buckeyes have also been playing well recently, going 12-2 of their last 14 contests. Included in that stretch was a 5-1 record over their final six Big Ten games.
