The Wisconsin swimming and diving team will compete at the Minnesota Invitational Nov. 18-20 at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. The meet will feature nine men 's teams'including North Dakota, St. Cloud State and South Dakota State 'and 14 women's teams'including Iowa State, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Iowa.
'This is our first three-day meet of the season, so it will be nice to see how the team reacts to its first championship-format meet,' head coach Eric Hansen said.
The men lost their most recent meet to Northwestern 125-99. However, junior captain Tom Molzahn had a strong showing, leading the Badgers with a first-place and two second-place finishes.
The 12-ranked women, meanwhile, beat Northwestern 148-75. Senior Amalia Sarnecki swam her way to victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.28. She picked up her second win of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke, completing the event in a time of 1:04.01.
Last year, the Wisconsin women took second place in the Minnesota Invite, while the men's team took third. The women's team was led by former Badger Carly Piper, who won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:37.26), while the men were led by UW grad Eric Wiesner, who was triumphant in the 100-yard freestyle (44.82).
Competition is set to begin at noon on Friday, followed by the finals at 6 p.m. Prelims are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, while the finals are again at 6 p.m. Due to time constraints, the Badgers will not be competing in Sunday 's events.
