Softball Adds Recruit For 2004-05
June 24, 2004 | Softball
UW head softball coach Karen Gallagher has announced the signing of Katie Hnatyk to join the team for the upcoming 2004-05 season.
A native of Woodbury, Minn., Hnatyk plays first base and outfield. During her senior season at Woodbury High in 2004 she put up a .479 batting average with 31 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Hnatyk's strong year helped her earn first-team all-state honors as a first baseman from the St. Paul Pioneer Press. She also received all-state honors from the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association and recently competed in the Minnesota state senior all-star series.
'We are excited about adding such an athletic and hard-working player as Katie to our program,' Gallagher said. 'We are glad to have a great Midwest hitter staying close to home.'
Hnatyk also excelled at the summer club level, most recently playing for the Minnesota Irish and the Minnesota Force prior to that. She has hit above .400 each of the past two summers, including a .441 average a year ago to go along with 48 RBI, 11 triples, five home runs and 16 stolen bases.
In addition to being a strong student in the classroom, Hnatyk also played hockey in high school.
