Gillette Honored by Big Ten

University of Wisconsin junior catcher Boo Gillette was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team, the conference announced Wednesday. The honor is the second of Gillette's career, the first of which came last year.
The Badgers' leader in offensive power, Gillette set single-season program records with 34 RBI and 14 doubles. Gillette was second on the squad with a .328 average in all games played.
In Big Ten play, Gillette led the Badgers with two a .290 batting average, two homers and 10 RBI and a .435 slugging percentage, while also hitting three doubles.
A power behind the plate as well, Gillette was second in the Big Ten with 10 runners caught stealing in 14 attempts, while leading the conference with three runners picked off. Overall, Gillette held runners to a 48 percent success rate and picked off seven.
Gillette was named the Big Ten's player of the week on March 2 for her .421 average and .684 slugging percentage performance with five doubles through six games at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., Feb. 27-29.
Gillette had the biggest game of her career against Michigan State on April 11, as she led the Badgers in their biggest comeback win in history to down the Spartans 11-8, overcoming a 6-0 deficit. In the game, Gillette went 4-for-4 with a record six RBI, including a grand slam and her single-season record-breaking 14th double.
A team captain for the past two seasons, Gillette was recently named the team's most valuable player and the offensive player of the year.
Gillette is a junior majoring in wildlife ecology and biological aspects of conservation. She is also the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board and was chosen to participate in the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference.
