December 11, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Wisconsin fell behind 12-1 less than four minutes into the game and never recovered, dropping a 63-54 decision to intrastate rival Marquette at the Bradley Center Saturday night.
The Badgers are now 5-2. The Golden Eagles improved to 9-0.
Marquette's Travis Diener led all scorers with 29 points. Alando Tucker paced the Badgers with 13 points, while Sharif Chambliss added 12 points.
Marquette outrebounded the Badgers by a 44-28 count, with Golden Eagle Marcus Jackson grabbing a game-high 15 boards. Marquette held a 14-4 advantage on the offensive glass.
Despite its early 11-point deficit, Wisconsin attempted to claw its way back into the game on several occasions, but never trimmed the Marquette advantage to fewer than six points. The Badgers trailed by 11 points (34-23) at halftime and by as many as 17 points in the second half.
UW, which was outshot from the field (36.8 percent to 34.6 percent), limited Marquette to 32-percent three-point shooting and forced 11 turnovers. The Golden Eagles shot just 28 percent from the floor in the second half, but the Badgers were not able to take advantage.
Wisconsin returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 15, when it hosts UW-Milwaukee at the Kohl Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
