Badgers Topple UW-Parkside 81-42 in Exhibition Opener

The Wisconsin men's basketball team rebounded from a slow start to post a decisive 81-42 win over UW-Parkside in its exhibition opener Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.
Sophomore Alando Tucker and senior Mike Wilkinson each posted double-doubles to pace the Badgers. Tucker tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds and Wilkinson added 13 points and 10 boards.
Redshirt freshman Brian Butch contributed 13 points, while sophomore Kammron Taylor was also in double figures with 11 as part of a balanced Wisconsin scoring effort.
UW held a slim 12-10 lead with 14:17 to go in the first half when it went on a 16-0 run over the next nine minutes and six seconds to increase its lead to 28-10 with 5:11 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Rangers missed nine consecutive shots and committed eight turnovers during the game-changing run.
The Badgers got nine points and nine rebounds in the first half from Tucker, who missed most of last season with a foot injury, on their way to a 38-17 halftime lead. Taylor added nine points and Wilkinson chipped in with eight prior to the break for UW which overcame eight turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play.
UW-Parkside closed to within 16 at 38-22 early in the second half, but Wisconsin answered with an 11-0 run to go up by 27. The Rangers never closer than 21 the rest of the way.
Wisconsin used a decisive height advantage to dominate the boards as it finished with a 49-30 advantage on the glass. UW also held a 38-20 edge on points in the paint.
UW-Parkside was limited to 30.4 percent shooting from the field (17 of 56), while the Badgers hit 45.9 percent of their shots (28 of 61).
Gareth Malkowski was the only Ranger to score in double figures, scoring 13 points including knocking down three three-pointers.
Wisconsin will close out its exhibition season at 7 p.m. next Tuesday when it plays host to UW-Platteville at the Kohl Center.

Today's game was the first of two exhibition games for the Badgers, both against in-state foes. Wisconsin will conclude its exhibition season by hosting UW-Platteville on Tuesday, Nov. 16 ... This was the first-ever meeting between Wisconsin and UW-Parkside ... Five players made their debuts in a Badger uniform tonight. They include true freshmen Tanner Bronson, Michael Flowers and Greg Stiemsma, redshirt freshman Brian Butch and senior Sharif Chambliss, a transfer from Penn State who sat out last season due to NCAA rules ... UW-Parkside head coach Luke Reigel played for Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan and was also an assistant coach under him when Ryan was the head coach at UW-Platteville ... The Badgers made 19 free throws in the game (27 attempts), while UW-Parkside attempted just six free throws (three made). Last season Wisconsin made 492 free throws while their opponents attempted 483 ... Freshman Tanner Bronson hit a three-pointer on his only shot attempt of the game with 2:17 remaining in the second half. Bronson served as a team manager last season ... Sophomore Alando Tucker, who missed all but four games last season due to injury, finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Tucker nearly had a double-double in the first half alone, posting nine points and nine boards. He has two double-doubles in 36 career regular season and post season games.
