Badgers Continue Fall Season at Home Saturday

It may the beginning of fall, but the Badger softball team is busy getting ready for the spring season. Wisconsin continues its fall season this Saturday when it plays host to UW-Green Bay and UW-Parkside at Goodman Diamond.
Fans will get their first chance to check out the 2003-04 Badgers in Madison when they take on Parkside at noon and Green Bay at 4 p.m. The Rangers and Phoenix will face off at 2 p.m.
The Badgers are coming off a 19-26 campaign in 2003 and enter the weekend with a 1-1-1 record to date during the fall season. Wisconsin participated in the Chicagoland Tournament from Sept. 12-13.
UW opened the tournament with a 1-1 tie against Western Illinois. Anastasia Miller tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Natalie Phillips. Sara Gonzales allowed one run on just two hits and struck out four in a complete-game effort in the pitcher's circle for the Badgers.
Freshman Eden Brock allowed just one run and four hits as Wisconsin picked up a 5-1 win over Lewis University. Emily Friedman and Meghann Reiss had two hits apiece for the Badgers and Miller chipped in with a home run and two RBI.
UW dropped its final contest, falling 5-3 to Northern Illinois. Gonzales came on in relief of Katie Layne in the second inning and didn't allow a run while surrendering four hits and striking out three. Sheena Padovan had a two-run single for Wisconsin.
Following the pair of games Saturday, UW will wrap up its fall season when it hosts Winona State at noon on Saturday, Oct. 4.
In addition, the Badgers have announced the dates for their annual Holiday/All-Skill Camp. Wisconsin will host the upcoming camp on Jan. 3-4, 2004 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Be sure to check back to uwbadgers.com for online registration coming in the near future.
