The Wisconsin softball team lost the second game of its double header versus Purdue, 8-1, Saturday afternoon. Senior Andrea Kirchberg hit her first home run as a Badger to score UW's lone run. The Badgers fall to 11-16 overall, 0-4 Big Ten.
Purdue took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Heidi Foster had her second two-out run-scoring hit of the day, lofting a high infield hit to score Angie Roembke.
The Boilermakers added two more runs in the top of the third off a double by Roembke, a Badger error and a single by Jesse Jones. In the fourth, Roembke added a third hit and another RBI, while Andrea Hillsey's three-run shot made it 7-0.
Down 8-0, Kirchberg hit her first UW career home run in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs to avoid the run-rule. Kirchberg hit her first home run in her 31st collegiate at-bat.
Kris Zacher tallied two hits and walked in four plate appearances. It was her team-leading fifth two-hit game of the year. Zacher also picked up her third stolen base of the year for the 10th of her career. Boo Gillette, who leads the team with a .278 batting average, cranked a double in the fourth. Gillette is tied for second on the team with three doubles this season.
The Badgers travel to Bloomington, Ind., tonight and will face the Indiana Hoosiers in double header action Sunday.
