November 03, 2003 | Men's Basketball
Former Wisconsin guard Kirk Penney signed with the NBA's Miami Heat, team president Pat Riley announced Monday afternoon. The Heat placed forward Samaki Walker on the injured list due to complaints about his right shoulder.
Penney finished his career in sixth place on Wisconsin's career scoring list. He played with the Minnesota Timberwolves summer league team this past summer and signed as a free agent with the Wolves on Aug. 22. He competed at Minnesota's training camp but was let go on Oct. 23.
Miami is coached by former Badger head coach Stan Van Gundy. Van Gundy took over on Oct. 24 when Riley announced he would step down as coach but stay on as team president. The Heat play the Dallas Mavericks tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Dallas.
