October 30, 2003 | Men's Basketball
The Wisconsin men's basketball team is ranked No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, released on Thursday. The Badgers are coming off a school-record 24 wins in 2002-03, including the outright Big Ten title and a berth in the 2003 NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16."
Connecticut was ranked No. 1 by the coaches, followed by Duke, Michigan State, Arizona and Kansas. Besides Wisconsin and Michigan State, the only other Big Ten team to appear in the rankings is Illinois at No. 13. Last year, the Badgers' highest ranking was tied for 13th, in the final coaches poll.
Wisconsin opens the exhibition season on Saturday, Nov. 8 against the EA Sports All-Stars at the Kohl Center. The Badgers' first regular-season game is Friday, Nov. 21 at Penn.
