Wednesday's originally scheduled BadgerChat with head softball coach Karen Gallagher has been moved to Tuesday, Sept. 24 at noon. Click on the BadgerChat link under the Sidelines column of this page to chat with coach Gallagher.
As the only head coach in UW softball history, Gallagher has led the Badgers to two-straight NCAA tournament appearances, three-straight Big Ten tournament appearances, and five winning seasons in the program's seven years. A former Cal assistant, Gallagher owns a 192-190-2 record with the Badgers.
The Badgers are coming off their second-straight NCAA tournament appearance and third-straight Big Ten tournament. UW finished the 2002 season, its seventh in program history, with a 31-20 record and 11-6 Big Ten mark. The Badgers' fourth-place finish in conference play is a program best.
Wisconsin opened its 2002 fall schedule going 4-1 at the National Invitational Championship in Moline, Ill., last weekend. The Badgers run-ruled Valparaiso and Illinois Central, while coming from behind to beat Lewis and topping eventual-champion Drake in nine innings. Eventual NIC runner-up Notre Dame, the 2002 NCAA Tournament Region VII runners-up, defeated the Badgers Sunday, 3-1.
This Saturday, Wisconsin takes on two in-state rivals in the Goodman Diamond Fall Tournament. The Badgers open the tournament against UW-Green Bay at noon and close the day versus UW-Parkside at 4 p.m.
