Kirchberg Earns All-Mideast Region Honors
May 17, 2002 | Softball
Wisconsin softball junior Andrea Kirchberg was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Mideast Region second team this week. It is her second All-Mideast Region honor and the program's fourth.
Kirchberg completed the 2002 season with 300 strikeouts, breaking the UW season best and her own personal high 299 strikeouts set during her rookie season. She owns the UW career mark after three years with 878.
Wisconsin's 2002 MVP pitched 243 innings this season and picked up 20 wins. Both numbers rank third in UW's single season record book. Her 42 appearances and 28 complete games rank second.
After owning UW career records in ERA, wins, strikeouts and winning percentage after her first two years, Kirchberg added the career record for appearances this season, upping her total to 127. She surpasses Ashley Fauser's 125. Kirchberg still sits behind Fauser in complete games (four) and innings pitched (11).
Kirchberg was named to the All-Mideast Region first team in 2000, while junior Nicki Starry and former Badger Julie Borchard were named to the second team in 2001 and 1998, respectively.
