Men's Basketball Family Fun Day Scheduled for Sunday
October 31, 2002 | Men's Basketball
The Wisconsin men's basketball team will hold Family Fun Day this Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Kohl Center. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a team scrimmage. The players and coaching staff will be available for autographs and pictures approximately 20 minutes after the scrimmage, in the Kohl Center concourse.
The doors of the Kohl Center will open at 12:30. Admission is free to the public. Admittance will be through Gates A and B. The 2002-03 team schedule poster will also be available.
The Badgers are coming off a 19-13 season in which they won a share of the Big Ten regular-season title for the first time since 1947. Three starters, senior Kirk Penney, junior Dave Mader and sophomore Devin Harris, return from that squad. Penney, a first-team All-Big Ten selection last year, is one of 50 preseason candidates for the John Wooden Award. Junior Freddie Owens and sophomore Mike Wilkinson are two other key contributors returning from last year. Other familiar faces include junior Ike Ukawuba and sophomores Deandre Buchanan and Clayton Hanson.
This will be the first chance to see the UW's six newcomers. Redshirt freshman forward Andreas Helmigk sat out all of last season with a knee injury. He is joined by five true freshmen, guards John Emerson and Boo Wade, guard/forward Alando Tucker, forward Ray Nixon and center Jason Chappell.
