- 1953, 54 State of Wisconsin Gold Gloves Champion
- Named the Badgers’ Fightingest Fighter in 1955
- 1956 NCAA Champion at 139 pounds
- Aided the Badgers to the 1956 NCAA Championship
- Competed in the 1956 U.S. Olympic Trials
- Boxed professionally in New York and Midwest after graduation
- Co-Founder of Baby Joe Gan’s Foundation in 1984, providing scholarships and helping inner city youth boxers keep their gyms and provide equipment for the kids
- A member of the Wisconsin Boxing Advisory Committee and member of the Board of Trustees of the Milwaukee Eagles Club
- 1981-2006 professional referee
- Inducted into the UW Boxing Wall of Fame in 1981
- Started boxing at the age of 12
