Arlie Schardt
- Induction:
- 2017
- Captain of the 1915 Big Ten and National Intercollegiate Championship Cross Country team
- Big Ten Conference indoor mile champion in 1917
- Member of two Big Ten Championship track teams and one cross country team
- Upon graduation in 1917, he entered the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant and went immediately into combat in World War I
- Left for dead for two-and-a-half days in No Man's Land after the horrific and decisive battle of Argonne Forest; 28 pieces of shrapnel were removed from his body
- Placed second in the mile at the 1919 American Expeditionary Forces Championships
- Won gold medal in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium, in the 3000 meters team race, becoming the first Badger to win a gold medal at the Olympics
- Coached at South Division High School in Milwaukee
- Strong advocate of women's sports
