A veteran of 16 seasons at Wisconsin and 23 years in the sports industry, Patrick Herb was named the Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communications in 2024 after most recently serving as the Badgers' Director of Communications and Brand Strategy. In addition to overseeing Wisconsin's Brand Communications department, Herb is the primary media relations contact and strategic brand manager for the Badgers football program.

As lead communications director for Wisconsin Athletics, Herb oversees publicity, media relations and strategic communications for the school's 23 sports. Herb also serves as the primary media contact for Athletic Director Chris McIntosh and department wide initiatives.

Since 2019, Herb has served as the Director of Brand Strategy at Wisconsin, playing a central role in several department-wide external projects, including COVID-19 response, Badger Legacy Campaign fundraising effort, launching the department's "Power of Us" diversity and inclusion initiative as well as the transition of athletic director leadership. Herb has also served as the brand manager for UW's men's basketball program and led the Badgers men's basketball communications efforts from 2008-2019.

Herb has served as the sideline reporter for the Wisconsin Radio Network's broadcasts of Badgers football games since 2009 and has regular segments on the network's football and men's basketball radio pregame shows. From 2014-2016, Herb also served a consultant to UW Athletics Director and College Football Playoff committee member Barry Alvarez, attending each of the first three CFP championship games.

During his time with Wisconsin, Herb has served as emcee for numerous external events including Rose Bowl pep rallies, six Garding Against Cancer Signature Galas and many other department events. Herb also co-hosted a popular podcast on Wisconsin Athletics in 2019-20, titled "Behind the Badgers."

As Assistant Director of Athletic Communications (2008-18), Herb oversaw the communications efforts for Wisconsin men's basketball’s back-to-back Final Four runs in 2014 and 2015, including the promotion of 2015 consensus National Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky. The book he authored on the Badgers’ remarkable run, Make ’Em Believe, was released in June 2015.

Prior to Wisconsin, Herb spent seven seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (2001-07), most recently as the manager of media relations. In his role with the Chiefs, Herb worked closely with the players, coaches and staff, assisting with the club's day-to-day media operations and logistics. He was also editor of the team's GameDay Magazine and helped launch the team's first digital video presence "Access Arrowhead," serving as on-air host and creative strategist. During his tenure, Herb worked five Super Bowls and was assigned to assist the San Diego Chargers PR Staff for the 2008 AFC Championship Game.

A 2001 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Herb and his wife, Lindsay, are both Appleton, Wis., natives and currently reside in Verona with their sons, Tyler and Austin.
