Jeff Schmidt was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue and Legal Affairs in July 2019 and is a member of Wisconsin Athletics’ senior leadership team. He oversees the Athletic Ticket Office, Equipment Room, Sports Camps and Clinics, Risk Management, football scheduling, and the negotiation and execution of all departmental contracts. Schmidt also serves as the sport administrator for Wisconsin’s men’s and women’s golf programs.
In addition, Schmidt leads key revenue and partnership initiatives, working to enhance revenue streams and strengthen the department’s major corporate relationships. He serves as the liaison to Wisconsin’s multimedia rights partner (LEARFIELD), apparel provider (Under Armour), retail merchandise partner (Fanatics), and the University’s Office of Trademark Licensing.
Since joining the department in 2004, Schmidt has held progressive leadership roles across events, operations, and administration, including Assistant and Associate Athletics Director for Events and Operations, and multiple senior administrative positions in Administration and Legal Affairs. Along the way, he has overseen areas such as Human Resources, Event Management, Facilities, Guest Services, Technical Services, and Food & Beverage, and has served as sport administrator for men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
A former first-round draft pick of the Anaheim Angels in 1992, Schmidt spent eight seasons in professional baseball with the Angels and Cleveland Indians organizations, making his Major League debut in 1996. He later practiced law at a Madison firm before transitioning to athletics administration.
A native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Schmidt earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 2000 and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2003. He and his wife, Rebecca, have one daughter, Sydelle.
