O'Connor reaches World Championships single sculls semifinals

AMSTERDAM — The 2020 UW graduate Lauren O'Connor is set to compete on Saturday the single sculls semifinals at the 2026 World Rowing Championship after advancing on Friday.
O'Connor finished second in her quarterfinal with a time of 7:31.82 to advance. The Belleville, Wisconsin, native is no stranger to the international spotlight, having raced in the 2024 Paris Olympics where she helped the U.S. quadruple sculls crew secure a ninth-place finish.Â
Another Badger will be rowing tomorrow, as Sophia Vitas is set to compete in Final A of the quadruple sculls. Vitas also competed at the 2024 Olympics.Â
In prior days, Claire Friedlander placed fifth in the women's lightweight single sculls, while 2024 Olympian Grace Joyce joined Madison native Isa Darvin in the double sculls, placing 16th. Former Badger Taylor Caudle is representing Australia at the event as a spare.Â
