Defenseman becomes NCAA-best 15th alumni to earn a spot on the Cup as a player
LAS VEGAS – Former Wisconsin men's hockey player K'Andre Miller helped the Carolina Hurricanes to the 2026 Stanley Cup on Sunday, becoming the 15th Badger to have their name etched on the Stanley Cup as a player.
The 15 alumni on the Cup are the most in NCAA history.
Miller and the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup Final 4-games-to-2, and finished off an impressive run that included a 16-3 record over four rounds. Carolina swept the first two rounds with 4-0 series wins over the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, before a 4-1 series victory over Cole Caufield and the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final.
Prior to Miller, Ryan McDonagh's Stanley Cup title with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021 marked the most recent Badger to win the trophy. That title for McDonagh was his second consecutive and second of his career.
Including Miller, a Badger has reached six of the last seven Stanley Cup Finals with Ty Emberson and Trent Frederic (Edmonton) playing last season; Dylan Holloway (Edmonton) in 2024; McDonagh in 2022; McDonagh (Tampa Bay - Champ) and Caufield (Montreal) in 2021; and McDonagh (Tampa Bay - Champ) and Joe Pavelski (Dallas) in 2020.
