MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team continues its spring racing season this Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19, at the B1G Invitational at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California.Â
Before they hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1 - B1G COMPETITION: This weekend's competition includes a mix of Big Ten and non-conference opponents from around the country. Notable participants include No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 Washington, No. 9 California, No. 12 Rutgers and other nationally-ranked teams, as well as 2025 NCAA qualifiers Oregon State, No. 17 Michigan and No. 23 Indiana, among others.

2 - B1G INVITE HISTORY: This marks the sixth year of the Big Ten Invitational, and it remains one of the nation's premier regular-season regattas at the collegiate level. The event is hosted annually by rotating Big Ten schools, including 2026 host Michigan State. This year's event will be held on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, after it's traditionally been located at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.Â
The regatta features three rounds of seven events – 1V8, 2V8, 1V4, 2V4, 3V4, 3V8 and 4V8.
At the 2025 B1G Invite, Wisconsin was led by its third varsity four squad, who finished in second place in its day two race and third place in the afternoon race on day one.
3 - LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers spent their spring break on the West Coast for their spring training trip to Southern California, racing in the San Diego Crew Classic as well as participating in a scrimmage at San Diego State.Â
At the San Diego Crew Classic, UW was led by its Women's Collegiate Novice 8+ Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy crew, which placed third in its heat with a time of 8:03.130. The crew also finished in third on Sunday with a time of 7:48.925. Read the full recap of the regatta here.Â
