
No. 13/12 Wisconsin falls short at Ohio State

Tassy, Zelenov score in 3-2 loss
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Power-play goals from Simon Tassy and Vasily Zelenov weren't enough as the No. 13/12 Wisconsin men's hockey team fell, 3-2, to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night at the Schottenstein Center.
Wisconsin (18-10-2, 11-9-0 Big Ten - 30 points) got on the board first with 25.7 seconds left in the first with a Simon Tassy power-play goal. Ohio State (11-16-1, 7-11-0 Big Ten - 22 points) responded 3:11 into the second, but Vasily Zelenov converted his own rebound for a power-play goal of his own at 10:47 to give UW a 2-1 advantage heading into the third. OSU scored twice in the third, once at 3:54 and again at 8:06, to claim a 3-2 victory.
How it Happened
First Period
OSU got the first power play of the game, 4:48 into the first, but UW got the kill with some key shot blocks to keep it off the board early.
With 2:12 left in the frame, UW received its first power play of the night, which senior forward Tassy capitalized on to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead with 25.7 seconds remaining.

Second Period
The Buckeyes got on the board, 3:11 into the second, with a goal on the rush from Ryan Gordon to tie the game at one.
Wisconsin got its second power play at 6:05, but it was unable to convert on any scoring chances.
At 10:47, freshman forward Zelenov made it 2-1, Wisconsin, on the power play, dangling the puck past Buckeye netminder Kristoffer Eberly after picking up his own rebound.

Third Period
Ohio State tied the game at two, 3:54 into the third, with a backhand goal from Jake Karabela.
The Badgers had a power play at 6:01, but it did not find the back of the net to re-take the lead.
Ryan Gordon scored his second goal of the night, unassisted at 8:06 to OSU its first lead of the night.
UW pushed hard in the final minutes of the game, pulling the goalie for an extra attacker, but it was unable to find an equalizer and fell, 3-2.
Wisconsin went 2-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. UW finished the contest with a 27-23 advantage in shots on goal.
