Five Things to Know: Wisconsin opens the home season with the Badger Classic

The Badgers compete in their second regular season meet on Friday
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's cross country team will participate in their second meet this season, hosting the Badger Classic on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. The women's 6-kilometer race is set to start at 10:30 a.m.
1. LAST RUN: Wisconsin placed fourth in the Mizzou Open with 100 points on Aug. 29. All nine Badgers finished within 1.1 seconds of one another. This was the first race as a Badger for Annaleis Quinton, who transferred from Harvard. Quinton placed 24th with a time of 18:14.6. Mizzou will host the NCAA Championship at the same course on Nov. 22.
2. BACK HOME: Last time at the Badger Classic, the Badgers placed second with 38 points. Nora Gremban led the Badgers in her first collegiate race, placing second with a time of 21:13.1. Four other Badgers placed in the Badger Classic, Mikaela Helling in 9th, Annika Elliott in 10th, Megan Lee in 11th and Myra Stray in 16th.
3. THE FAB FOUR: Mya Bunke, Kylie Finger, Maggie Munson and Leané Willemse are back for another year for the Badgers as graduate students. All four runners hail from Wisconsin and are experienced veterans on the team. Willemse was one of seven Badgers to compete in the NCAA Championships last year, placing 188th in the 6k.
4. IN THE RANKS: According to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the Badgers are ranked No. 19 with 123 points for the week 1 rankings. The Badgers and No. 5 within the Big Ten, behind Oregon, Washington, Penn State and Michigan State. The Minnesota Gophers trail the Badgers with 116 points.
5. UP NEXT: After a two-week break, the Badgers will travel to Chicago for the 46th annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 3 hosted by the Loyola Chicago Ramblers. The women's 6k is set to start at 10 a.m. at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course on Chicago's north side.
