Four UW sport programs land perfect NCAA multi-year APR scores

The Badgers continue to show academic prowess in NCAA's latest APR release
MADISON, Wis. – Four University of Wisconsin athletic programs achieved perfect multi-year scores in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA on Tuesday as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program. Wisconsin's men's golf, wrestling, women's cross country and women's golf programs all recorded multi-year APR scores of 1,000. Sixteen Badger programs recorded perfect 2023-24 scores of 1,000.Â
The data for all schools includes the most current multi-year cohort (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years). All 21 Wisconsin teams included in the report scored well above the threshold required by the NCAA for good standing while 18 saw a score increase from 2022-23 data to 2023-24 data.
The APR is a real-time measure of a team's academic performance and is calculated by reviewing variables such as eligibility, retention and graduation rates of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating.
As tracked through the APR, more than 14,000 former college athletes have returned to school to get their degrees since the NCAA created the measurement tool. Each of those students earns back a lost APR point for their team.
