Badgers win in a 4-0 sweep to finish regular season
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Wisconsin Badgers wrapped up their regular season on a high note, beating the Penn State Nittany Lions in a 4-0 sweep. This was Wisconsin's 17th win, capping off a stellar season. The Badgers will look to keep their momentum going into the Big Ten Tournament starting later this week.
ÂHOW IT HAPPENED: Wisconsin pulled out an extremely close victory in the doubles competition, with Parker Christensen and Kaja Jacobson winning the deciding match to secure the point for the Badgers. After No. 46 Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson won their match 6-3, the other matches both came down to tiebreaker games. In the end, Wisconsin was too much for the Nittany Lions to handle, and they came away with the doubles point.
ÂIn singles play, the Badgers completely overmatched the Nittany Lions winning their matches convincingly. Ekaterina Ivanova got the Badgers going early with a win over Patricia Grigoras, 6-3, 6-1. Then, No. 8 Maria Sholokhova contributed the third point of the game for Wisconsin, wrapping up an incredible regular season for the Junior from Sochi, Russia. She controlled the match the entire way, winning 6-2, 6-2. Finally, Freshman Parker Christensen had one of the best performances of her young career, clinching the win in a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Deanna Lasorda.
ÂIt was a fitting finish to a fantastic regular season for the Wisconsin women's tennis team.
ÂUP NEXT: The Badgers will compete in the Big Ten tournament in Ojai, California from April 23-April 27.Â
