No. 1 golfer in Idaho joins Badgers
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's golf team signed Cara Carter to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday, confirming her enrollment at the University of Wisconsin beginning with the 2026-27 season, head coach Todd Oehrlein announced.
"We're excited to have Cara joining us next year," Oehrlein said. "She works really hard, loves to compete, and just keeps getting better. She had a great summer, with some outstanding national events. We can't wait for her to get on campus!"
Carter, a native of Boise, is the No. 1 ranked golfer out of Idaho in the class of 2026, and 120th nationally. She's a two-time Idaho Junior Amateur Champion, and a top-25 finisher at the 2025 World Junior Championships. Carter has also won the Dropping Junior Championship twice, and represented Idaho in the Girls Junior America Cup twice.
A product of Bishop Kelly High School, she led the Knights to back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024. She was the individual winner of the 2024 5A Idaho State Championship, shooting -3 in the victory.
Cara is the sibling of Badger alum Carly Carter, who appeared in the Badger lineup 23 times between 2021-2025. The sisters will be the third sibling duo to play under Coach Oehrlein, joining Bobbi and Izzi Stricker, along with Katie and Alyssa Elliott.
