Badgers’ four boats compete on Mercer Lake in New Jersey

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The No. 16 Wisconsin men's rowing team began its 2024 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships with heats, a time trial and semifinal on Mercer Lake on Friday.

The Badgers opened with the headlining varsity eight and placed fifth in their heat with a time of 5 minutes, 55.851 seconds. Second-ranked Brown crossed the 2000-meter finish line first in 5:37.691 with Pennsylvania second in 5:39.321 and Northeastern third in 5:39.941.

Wisconsin will next race in Saturday's CD Semifinal, looking to get into the C Final for places 13-18.

UW's second varsity eight also placed fifth in its heat and next races in the event's CD Semifinal on Saturday.

The Badger third varsity eight took fourth in their Friday heat with a time of 5:53.414, just over two seconds behind third place Cornell for the third and final spot in the AB Semifinal. Instead, the Badgers will race in Sunday's third varsity eight C Final.

Finally, UW's varsity four placed 25th in the event's time trial with a time of 6:28.863. Washington won the time trial in 6:06.858. That put the Badgers in Friday afternoon's Semifinal 4, where they took third. They'll race on Saturday in Final 5.
