Wisconsin women’s rowing season wraps at Big Tens

Badgers place sixth in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS – Wisconsin's women's rowers went to Eagle Creek Park in Indiana knowing they would have to put up their best performances of the season to get a top-three result and put themselves in position for a 14th consecutive NCAA championships bid. The effort was there, but the results fell short as UW placed sixth as a team at the 2022 Big Ten Rowing Championships on Sunday.
"Well, today was a rough day for the Badgers," head coach Bebe Bryans said. "While we had picked up a lot of speed in the past few weeks, it wasn't long enough to be really locked in. The course and weather were perfect, we just couldn't really take advantage of it.
"The race of the day was probably the second varsity eight - they were coming hard from behind after a big wake in the first half of the race but ran out of time. That was a little like our season. We are all pretty disappointed but already looking forward to beginning a new campaign."
In the NCAA boats, UW placed seventh in the varsity eight and sixth in the second varsity eight and varsity four races.
UW's top finishes came in the novice eight and third varsity four, both of whom placed fourth.
All-Big Ten Honors
Seniors Hannah Cooper and Brandi Gueths were honored as first-team and second-team All-Big Ten picks after the races. Senior Olivia Bratzke was recognized as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner, as well.
